Process of making a Will or LPA

We understand that making a Will or Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) can be a bit daunting, and many people don't fully understand what the process involves. My Will Expert aims to do all of the hard work for you, making it as simple as possible to prepare for your future.

To help you know exactly what to expect, we've mapped out the typical client journey below. Don't forget, your consultant will support you every step of the way.

Get in touch

If you are thinking of making a Will or LPA, give us a call or request a callback for a no-obligation chat with our expert team. A My Will Expert consultant will guide you through the available options and answer any questions you may have, helping you find the right solution to meet your needs.

Call us on 01302 639 680 or request a callback.

Instruction appointment

If you decide to create a Will or LPA (or both) with us, we will book you a convenient telephone or video call appointment with your Will consultant, at a time that suits you. During the call, your Will consultant will discuss your requirements and take your instructions.

Before the appointment, we will provide you with all the information you need to ensure that the meeting runs smoothly and covers everything you want it to. Once your Will consultant has everything they need, they will make your first draft.

If you are creating a trust with your Will, your consultant will take any extra steps required as part of the process, such as if a severance to a joint tenancy is necessary to set up a Protective Property Trust.

Approve your draft

When the draft of your documents is prepared, we will send it to you for approval. If you require any alterations to be made, we will make these updates to ensure that it meets your needs entirely. When you are completely happy, we will produce a final version of the documents.

Sign your final documents

We will send your final documents to you to sign and return, using a courier service that we will arrange for you. You will be sent instructions with your documents showing you how to sign them to ensure that the signing requirements are met.

My Will Expert takes care of the rest!

My Will Expert will take care of the rest, checking that your documents are correctly signed and that everything is in place. If you have created an LPA, we can register this for you with the Office of the Public Guardian, and we will finalise any outstanding steps to ensure that your documents are ready to use if or when necessary. We can also store them for you if you choose, at no extra cost.
